Assistant Project Manager
Job Description
Posted on: June 1, 2026
Blue Oak Consulting advises boards and investors on the economic logic behind their most significant commercial moves. We are currently searching for an Assistant Project Manager to join a team advising a major industrial group in Vienna on its current portfolio economics and capital allocation settings. Our client is a Vienna based entity, and this role supports the principals who conduct the primary analysis, ensuring that our project timelines remain accurate and that every assumption we test for the client is documented and checked. Employment setup This is a fully remote role managed by Blue Oak Consulting, a firm based in the United Kingdom. While the work is remote, the team requires significant overlap with Central European Time to support our ongoing client engagement in Vienna. Candidates must have the right to work in their current country of residence. This position is a full-time, permanent role with a regular workload. The hiring process typically involves an initial document review, a 30 minute screening conversation, a brief exercise in project tracking or data organization, and a final interview with a firm principal. The role offers attractive pay and full remote flexibility. About the role As an Assistant Project Manager, you will be the organizational backbone of our client engagements. In our lean structure, you will work closely with senior advisors who lead the interrogation of client data. Your task is to keep the moving parts of an advisory project in sync: from data collection to final reporting. You will organize the data rooms, maintain the project logs, and ensure that deadlines for model reviews and client presentations are met without delay. This is an entry-level position where you will learn how high-level commercial decisions are analyzed and executed from the inside. What you will do
- Update and maintain detailed project schedules to track progress against critical client milestones.
- Coordinate the collection of financial data and records from client teams for our analysis.
- Organize and manage secure digital data rooms to ensure all project documents are indexed correctly.
- Document the specific assumptions used in our financial models for easy reference during client reviews.
- Review internal reports for consistency in formatting and numerical accuracy before they reach the principal team.
- Assist in drafting project update memos that summarize work completed and upcoming workstreams.
- Monitor project resource logs to ensure the team is focusing efforts on the highest priority commercial tests.
- Set up and manage the logistics for remote workshop sessions and steering committee meetings.
What we are looking for
- Some experience in an office or professional environment, which could include internships or initial roles in administration or project support.
- Comfortable using standard office tools such as Excel and project management applications.
- A logical approach to solving problems and a preference for order and documentation.
- Reliable written communication skills with a focus on being concise and factual.
- Eager to learn how commercial decisions are structured and how financial advice is delivered at a high level.
- Ability to manage your own schedule within a remote environment to meet firm deadlines.
- Basic understanding of financial terms or an interest in how businesses allocate capital.
Helpful background
- Familiarity with tools like Trello, Asana, or Monday point com for task tracking.
- Some exposure to basic data visualization or making clear charts for reports.
- Interest in economics, business management, or finance through previous studies or personal reading.
What the role offers
- Direct exposure to high-level commercial logic and the decision-making processes of large organizations.
- A fully remote work arrangement that prioritizes output over physical presence.
- The opportunity to learn project management within a specialized consulting environment.
- A permanent position with steady professional growth within a principal-led firm.
- Mentorship from senior advisors who have direct experience in capital allocation and acquisitions.
About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We focus on commercial decisions where the financial consequences are material and the standard narrative is no longer sufficient. Our work is largely about reading numbers with skepticism to see what they might be hiding. We test whether the logic behind a commercial move actually holds under pressure or if it depends on assumptions that have not been properly stressed. We work directly with boards, management teams, and investors to identify where value is leaking and where capital is trapped. Unlike firms that deploy large teams of junior analysts, our engagements are handled by principals with direct experience in the questions being asked. We stay involved through execution because many decisions that look sound in theory fail when they meet real friction. Our independence is fundamental. We do not take mandates contingent on transaction outcomes and we have no products to sell. This allows us to be honest when the economics of a deal or strategy do not make sense.
