Discover Your Dream Career with the Enhanced Skill Explorer Tool!

Navigate Your Career Path with Skill Explorer

MADISON – As the new year begins, the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has unveiled an upgraded Skill Explorer tool, designed to assist job seekers in finding their ideal job matches. This free online resource offers an expansive array of features to help individuals navigate their career options effectively.

What is Skill Explorer?

Developed by DWD's Bureau of Workforce Information and Technology Support (BWITS), this innovative tool allows users to search for job openings based on their existing skills. By utilizing advanced technology, Skill Explorer categorizes various occupations across diverse industries, making it easier for job seekers to explore careers that align with their experience, education, and skill sets.

Key Features of Skill Explorer

• Skill Analysis: Users can discover transferable skills that may lead them to new career opportunities.
• Career Exploration: The tool allows exploration by experience level, career groupings, and education level, catering to entry-level job seekers, career changers, and those looking to advance their careers.
• Comprehensive Support: Enhanced features include a job center locator, educational resources, a certification resource locator, and links to apprenticeship opportunities and internships through WisConnect.

DWD Secretary Amy Pechacek stated, "Our updated Skill Explorer helps more people find the right job opportunities based on what they already know and do well. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to make a change, Skill Explorer can help you. It’s a smart way to widen your career options and find a great job."

How It Works

Unlike traditional job search platforms, Skill Explorer assesses a user’s current skills and highlights potential career paths that they might not have previously considered. The tool also identifies additional skills that could be acquired to pursue new career avenues, making it a valuable resource for job seekers at any stage.
