Role Description This is a full-time, remote Embedded Hardware Engineer role based out of the Berlin office, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in Europe. The role involves designing, developing, and validating embedded hardware for defence applications, including circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout for robust, field-ready systems. The engineer will participate in requirements definition, component selection, prototyping, and hardware bring-up, working with firmware and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration. Day-to-day tasks include testing and debugging electronics hardware, documenting designs, supporting design reviews, and contributing to continuous improvement of hardware platforms and supply chain resilience. The position also requires close cooperation with manufacturing partners, supporting localization, production readiness, and reliability testing for combat and field trials.
Qualifications
- Strong hardware development skills, including experience with embedded systems hardware and end-to-end product lifecycle.
- Proficiency in circuit design and analysis, including schematic capture and PCB layout for mixed-signal and power electronics.
- Hands-on experience with electronics hardware design, prototyping, lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), and hardware debugging.
- Good understanding of computer hardware architectures and interfaces, including microcontrollers, sensors, communication buses, and power management.
- Relevant degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience designing for reliability, EMI/EMC, safety, and harsh environmental conditions; exposure to defence or aerospace standards is beneficial.
- Ability to work effectively in distributed teams, communicate clearly in English, and document designs and test results in a structured manner.
- Familiarity with configuration management, version control (e.g., Git), and collaboration with firmware and mechanical engineering teams.
- Eligibility to work on defence-related projects under applicable export control and security regulations; prior work in security-sensitive domains is a plus.
