Ari Steward, a standout athlete from Pleasant Valley High School in Riverdale, Iowa, has been named the Spotlight Athlete of the Week. Her recent performance marks a significant milestone in her athletic career, blending immediate success with long-term ambition.
Steward made her diving season debut for the Spartans against Moline just a few weeks ago. In that competition, she secured first place and achieved a career-high score. This impressive feat not only highlighted her individual skill but also ranked her second in the state, placing her among the top divers in Iowa.
Looking ahead, Steward has already taken the next step in her athletic journey by verbally committing to continue her diving career at the Division I level at South Dakota State University. This commitment underscores her dedication to excellence both on and off the platform.
Her head girls diving coach, Hannah Coiner, praised Steward’s character as much as her talent. "She’s a standout athlete. She really is," Coiner said. "The work that she puts in, she leads with grit. She leads with confidence and positivity in and out of the pool. And it’s awesome to see her be recognized for this." Coiner added that Steward embodies the school's motto: "committed to excellence."
For Steward, the recognition holds special meaning as it coincides with her final high school season. "It means a lot because I feel like over this past year, especially, I’ve put in a lot of hard work in the off season, which I haven’t done in years prior," Steward shared. "I’m really excited for the season and the recognition means a lot... It makes it a lot more special that this is my last high school season."
With her eye set on collegiate competition and a legacy of hard work behind her, Steward continues to inspire those around her through her grit, confidence, and unwavering focus.
